HP is committed to supporting the UN’s millennium goals and particularly the unique challenges that face Asia Pacific - the most populated and economically diverse region in the world. Our objective is to establish social investment programs and work with reputable partners to make a genuine, significant and lasting difference to communities around the region. Specifically, our aim is to focus on areas where we can draw on our depth of expertise to have the greatest impact. In Asia Pacific our primary focus areas are education and micro entrepreneurs. |
Despite being one of Asia Pacific’s fastest growing business segments, micro enterprises typically have limited access to business resources and expertise. The HP Entrepreneurship Learning Program, 2009 (HELP) aims to provide micro enterprises with enhanced business and technology skills to help them generate income either through the creation of new businesses or the growth of existing ones. For example, in India, HP partners with the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), providing basic ICT training to members. So far, nearly 9,000 employees have completed the program, resulting in thirty percent of trainees going on to start their own businesses and increase their incomes. In Thailand, HP works with instrumental community partners to develop the Community Enterprise Support Project, providing SME participants with invaluable business training, resulting in many businesses substantially increasing their revenue.

Through partnership with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), the HP Innovations in Education (IIE) Program, 2009 provides grants of technology, cash and mentoring support to enhance the education experience in secondary schools and universities. The aim is to combine the best instructional practices with the right technologies to create powerful, new learning experiences for students. In 2009, 28 schools and universities across Asia Pacific were granted USD $3.7 million through the Program.
