While HP contributes significant technology and financial resources to our global citizenship program, undoubtedly the greatest energy comes from our employees. Around the Asia-Pacific region, HP employees are keen to support people in need and volunteer substantial time, expertise, energy and money – further reinforcing HP’s global citizenship efforts.

Local HP offices identify specific programs for employees and the local community. For example:

In China, throughout 2008, 161 HP employees contributed over 800 volunteer hours including assisting more than 2,000 students and teachers at two Beijing schools dedicated to serving the children of migrant workers. They also supported three earthquake affected schools in Sichuan, and more than 100 elderly residents in Beijing.
In India, HP volunteers formed a Theatre Club enabling them to connect with students from Bangalore's Shristi Special Academy — a non-profit organisation which focuses on the development, education, training and rehabilitation of mentally challenged and autistic children.
In India, there are a plethora of volunteering programs and initiatives conceived and run entirely by employees. Employee volunteer groups organise Initiatives addressing various social areas such as education, healthcare, disability, environment and care for the elderly, In addition to such programs – employees contribute items to corporate giving programs such as the Giving Season program and disaster relief.
In the Philippines, employees have formed Inspire@HP, a volunteer group that runs various community programs such as funding homes for Habitat for Humanity. Other programs include fund-raising for the environment, participation in Earth Hour, technology training for schools, and support to an organisation that provides Internet connectivity to all public high schools in the Philippines.
In Singapore, employees volunteered their time to assist as marshals, officials and chaperones in the 7th National Games of the Special Olympics. Employees also organize an onsite blood donation drive every four months.
In Hong Kong, employees are working with the Hong Chi Association – an association to serve and train people with intellectual disabilities to create a Charity Family Day.
In Australia, teams of employees volunteer to assist Conservation Volunteers Australia in the HP Schools Future Program – an initiative which sees teams assisting local schools implement a sustainable conservation project – such as bush regeneration or tree planting.
In Japan, employees are working with a local NGO, Junior Achievement, on a ‘job shadowing’ program where high school students come to work with employees and gain valuable on the job experience.
In Taiwan, together with HP Taiwan, employees donated in excess of USD$300,000 to Taiwan Root Medical Peach Corps, to provide relief in Taiwan to those affected by Typhoon Morakot, which struck the country in August 2009.
